DECISION GUIDE

Custom website or template: an honest way to decide.

TechSetup builds custom websites. And will still tell you when a template is the smarter buy. This guide gives you the decision framework we use with clients across India, so you choose with open eyes.

01

WHEN TEMPLATE WINS

Templates are right more often than agencies admit.

If you need a brochure site fast, your content rarely changes, and your budget is tight, a good template with professional setup beats a bad custom build every time.

  • Launch in days, not months
  • Proven layouts that already convert
  • Lower upfront commitment
  • Best for simple brochure and portfolio sites

02

WHEN CUSTOM PAYS

Custom earns when the website IS the business.

Stores, booking flows, configurators and anything with unusual logic outgrow templates quickly. Custom also wins when speed, SEO structure and brand differentiation directly drive revenue.

  • Unique buying or booking flows
  • Speed budgets templates cannot meet
  • SEO structures templates cannot express
  • A brand that must not look assembled

CLEAR ANSWERS

Common questions, answered directly.

Is a custom website always more expensive?

Upfront, usually. You are paying for design and engineering time rather than a license. Over years, a custom site you fully own can cost less than template subscriptions plus workarounds. Ask for both quotes before deciding.

Can I start with a template and go custom later?

Yes, and it is a sensible path. Keep your domain, content and images portable, and plan the migration with redirects so rankings survive the move.

Will a template hurt my SEO?

Not by itself. Rankings come from speed, structure, content and authority. A well-set-up template with good content outranks a slow custom site. The risk is a bloated template, not templates as such.
